Munich “eats” well – our favourite spots
Munich has it all when it comes to food – and the best of it sits right in our neighbourhood. For Bavarian classics head to Lindwurmstüberl, famous for its roast chicken (rooftop terrace included). “Cooperativa” blends oriental cooking with Bavarian tavern tradition: no reservations, you simply join a table – say “ruck a stuck” (scoot over) and you are right in the middle of it.
For cake and coffee try Café am Beethovenplatz (“Mariandl”) – just a few minutes’ walk from the apartment. Nearby, Bar Gabanyi mixes our favourite cocktails, and for a sweet finish grab a scoop at Jessas ice-cream parlour in the Glockenbach quarter. The finest views across the city to the Alps come from Alter Peter tower or the rooftop Café Vorhölzer.
Our favourites at a glance
- ✦ Lindwurmstüberl – Bavarian kitchen and famous roast chicken, rooftop terrace
- ✦ Cooperativa – oriental meets tavern, right among locals
- ✦ Café am Beethovenplatz (Mariandl) – coffee, cake and live piano
- ✦ Bar Gabanyi – our favourite cocktails
- ✦ Jessas – ice cream in the Glockenbach quarter
- ✦ der kleine Flo – burger-tapas spot
- ✦ Sansaro – Japanese kitchen with properly good sushi
- ✦ Fraunhofer – for the classic Bavarian evening

Oktoberfest: the Wiesn on foot
The Theresienwiese is about 600 metres from the apartment – you are on the festival grounds in under 10 minutes on foot. That means no taxi queues, no packed trains, and when the Maß has done its work you simply stroll home.
Our Wiesn tips
- ✦ Book early: the Wiesn weeks (mid-September to early October) sell out months ahead
- ✦ Weekday mornings are the most relaxed tent time – no reservation needed
- ✦ Your own kitchen saves the morning after: breakfast in the apartment, no buffet queue
- ✦ Bring cash – cards are still not a given in the tents
- ✦ Family tip: Tuesday is family day with discounted rides
Everything about booking for the Wiesn – dates, tent hours, bag rules and the booking calendar – is bundled on our Oktoberfest page.
